The first photo contains actual Cholla blossoms. It seems odd that any plant would produce green blossoms. The second photo doesn’t show any blossoms. I shot the second because I liked the way that the late afternoon sun lit up the Cholla.
Both frames were made in Joshua Tree National Monument with Kodak Gold 100 film just minutes before Mike Harmon and I discovered that we both had Cholla spines embedded in our leathers. His were stuck into the side of his leather boot. Mine were sticking into my chaps at mid-shin. It is probably good that we always seem to ride wearing leathers in that area…
