Grey Heron

Though Snowy Egrets (a small heron) were once hunted to near-extinction when their feathers were used as decorations for women’s hats, their population has now bounced back and I frequently see them at the Salton Sea and other inland lakes like the one shown in this photo at Fairmount Park in Riverside, California. I rarely see Grey Herons like the one in this photo, perched on the railing of the boathouse, or Great Blue Herons.

This photo was made on October 19, 2012, when I was shooting the boathouse. Yashica Electro 35 GSN and Kentmere 100 film.
